The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)

Director: Marc Webb. Cast: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, Sally Field, Paul Giamatti, Campbell Scott. 142 min. Rated PG-13. Action/Fantasy.

Great action scenes. Awesome villain. Terrible romance. Bad choice of superhero actor. Overlong movie. That sums it up for another mediocre superhero film, that's coming out every half hour these days. They should've just stuck with the Sam Raimi/Toby Maquire/Kirsten Dunst trio.

  1. I cringe to think someone enjoyed the leaden Kirsten Dunst As MJ! Current cast is perfect, straight from the comics. Romance is typical for teenagers, I have 2, I know! Andrew Garfield, aside from being a Brit, was perfect as the amazingly agile, angst-ridden hero. Can't wait for the next one! Excelsior!

    1. I cringe at the thought of people waiting for the next one too, but thanks for cringing. I haven't read the comics, but my understanding is that Peter Parker was originally defined as a "failure", which is what made Toby Maguire's loser-type contrast with his alter ego so interesting. No criticism to Andrew Garfield's acting, but making him as "cool" as Spider-Man and diminishing the contrast, entirely misses the point.
